Five ways to bring nature into your home
Bringing nature into your home helps to calm, relax and soothe. There’s no doubt that we have all needed this more than usual over the last year. Here are five of my favourite ways to connect your home with the outdoors.
1. Houseplants:
Houseplants can be very easy to maintain if you choose the right ones. Not only do they bring a little more nature into your life, they also give you a great sense of accomplishment to see them flourishing and new leaves appearing. Have a search online for easy houseplants for beginners and you’ll get plenty of results. Your local garden centre will be able to offer advice too.
My favourites at the moment are spider plants, snake plants, aloe vera and my baby avocados. Growing avocados from seed are a bit hit and miss but if you were just going to throw that seed in the compost, you may as well try and nurture it into a plant!
2. Furnishings:
If you’re in need of some new furnishings in your home, why not make them nature themed? For example, leafy green patterns on tea towels, bed linen, cushion covers and tablecloths.
3. Mirrors:
Many people find having a lot of mirrors to be a vain thing, but they are an excellent way to reflect light into your home. Position them to reflect your garden or the blue skies and appear as if you have an extra window!
4. Photos:
Photos are a simple way to bring nature inside with a personal touch.
Browse through your photos of your favourite outdoor places and have a few printed out to pop on your wall or the fridge.
Remember to check size requirements though as often photos taken on a phone cannot be enlarged very much without losing quality.
If you don’t have any photos, take some on your next walk.
If you live in a town or city where it’s hard to find much greenery, try taking photos of the upper branches of some trees with the blue sky as the background, or in family and friend’s gardens.
5. Paintings:
Have a favourite place, plant or animal but no photos with a high enough quality to be printed? Why not invest in a bespoke painting of it instead?
