Pet Portrait Guidelines
Please read through these guidelines before purchasing your pet portrait to ensure the best possible likeness.
Choosing a photo for your pet portrait
Please keep in mind the following guidelines as I will need a good quality photo to work from.
Take a photo or choose one you already have that is taken in daylight or a brightly lit room.
Choose a photo that really captures your pet’s character!
I will work from one main photo, but you are welcome to send additional photos for details.
The photo must be good quality, clear and in focus. Painting or drawing from a poor quality photo may result in a portrait like does not look like your pet. Email the original photo rather than a screenshot, as this will be too poor quality for me to work from. Try opening your photo on a laptop, and enlarging the photo so it fills the screen. If it looks blurry, it is too poor quality to use. If you are still unsure if your photos are good enough quality, pop them in an email to me and I can check them before you make a purchase.
For a full body portrait, ensure the whole body is in focus, with no cropping of the ears or tail. Aim to choose a photo where your pet fills the frame without zooming in.
It is fine to use ‘portrait mode’ on your phone, just bear in mind that any part of the photo that is not in focus, will also not be in focus in the final portrait.
If the photo shows any collars, tags or leads, these will also be included in the finished piece.
Let me know if you would like a white background, or for the background of the photo to be included.
Please note, if your photo is square, then the final portrait will be a square. It will be still be created on the paper sizes available on the product pages, not square paper.
Unless you specify, I will use my artist’s eye to decide whether the finished piece is portrait or landscape.
The artwork will be started only once I have received payment.
Please read the terms and conditions before purchasing.
